Eid and it’s Moon.

Let’s a visit to the past.

A few days ago, while doing something I looked at the sky and the moon caught my attention. Although not full, yet magnificent and beautiful. And that sight made me look at it again, almost daily, with two bright stars by its side. And then one day, only those stars were there and the moon disappeared.
It’ll appear again on Eid but looking at that pretty sight of starry sky with moon shining brilliantly, gave me a lot of random thoughts. The times of our childhood when we used to go upstairs to see moon for Ramadan or eid, all those excited neighbourhood kids on roofs, random sounds of kids saying “chand nazar aa gya” even before maghrib and all other kids including us were dumb enough to search for that. Then a series of so-called “jokes” which weren’t funny at all but we used to laugh at them. Then after maghrib mama used to come upstairs and point at the moon(it’s still the same, almost always none of us can find the moon until mama point it for us) and then we all hugged. The whole aura was so soothing and memorable.
What about now?
We still go to see the moon. We are still excited. But that feeling isn’t the same. That whole atmosphere filled with breeze and kids’ laughters and everyone on the roof looking for the moon, it isn’t the same anymore. Now walls have raised too high for us to notice each other. Now that feeling of pure happiness is mixed with silent tears of us remembering our sins that the month of collecting endless blessings is now leaving us and the thought of people who aren’t in this world anymore with us.
Have you thought what will moon remind us this time?
May be the fact that the people in Palestine are seeing the same moon but sitting on the destroyed walls of their houses? Or may be the thought of uyghurs who can’t celebrate eid although they see the moon? Or even the thought of slums of our own city where eid is just another day of nothingness? So many things….
But you know, we may shed tears on all this but the truth is we will forget all this the next day and continue with our lives like we always have.
As we are now just the humans without humanity..!!!
