Role of Islam in healing traumas

Trauma any stressful, or distressing event that is difficult to handle. Many people go through traumas but not wrong to say that for all in once all go through this unbearable situation. Many get healed with time and many go under another phase of emotional or physical reactions which in medical term referred as PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). From neglected childhood to abusing teen age to meeting an unwanted accident in prime age, marital issues to cognitive declining in your last stages of life, difficult to endure……….right………But IS IT REALLY?

Trauma is not just a word of modern age. It has been a part of our lives. Our prophet SAW, His companions, various Muslim leaders and soldiers have gone through this. But what made them different……their belief and submission, indeed. Islamic values and beliefs are beneficial in overcoming traumatic life events and seeking posttraumatic growth. Islamic belief and it’s practicing fills up Muslims with security and peace as well as optimism.

Our prophet was subjected to verbal attacks, jeers and insults had lost the lives of their beloved ones. The story of Ibrahim A.S. and fire, Younas A.S., Ayub A.S. and various other prophets teaches us how traumatic their lives were. But in Their catastrophes, they used to believe in Allah Who has all the sovereignty. They used to zikr a lot to tranquil their souls. Allah addressed the importance of salah in Quran at various occasions as it is for the benefit of Muslims. It is a connection of us to our Allah. It teaches us we do not have to wait for our worries to be addressed. We can go to our RABB any time. Our standing in front of our Rabb depicts the development of strong relation with Allah. For every trauma there is ajar for us. Allah has addressed the humanity about their mental statuses in various verses.

‘‘Be aware that the remembrance of Allah calms the hearts’’

But every traumatic situation is not an ideal one which goes away and not come into us ever again and temporarily depresses us. Some situations leave us in a lifelong permanent pessimism. For this Allah teaches us about sabr (patience). It has a profound impact on individual well-being, spiritual growth, and the development of a resilient psyche.

Palestine a word that just by its name brings so many tears in our eyes, no one is unaware of the situation of our Palestinian brothers and sisters. Their misery is not ending any way but they are still facing it with a smile on their face. They have lost their loved ones their homes their lands but still going on. This is the amount of infinite faith they have in Allah. They know the ajar awaiting them.

When we go deep down in our Deen it shows the world is a temporarily place and hardships are a part of it. A muslim believes that the real dunya is waiting him after this. This life is not a bed of roses and we have to bear the hardships here believing Allah to relieve and heal us. Through faith, patience, and remembrance, we can turn our pain into purpose, emerging stronger and more connected to our Creator. In every struggle lies the promise of healing, hope, and a deeper connection to Allah.

For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. Indeed, with hardship [will be] ease. So when you have finished [your duties], then stand up [for worship]. And to your Lord direct [your] longing.
