Let’s learn about Hazrat Saeed Bin Zayd (R.A)
The man who always charged first in the battle!Among the companions of Rasool ullah صلى الله عليه وسلم, there are number of companions who are well-known among angels as well. Among them, ten companions are those to whom Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم has given glad tidings about Jannah in his life! SubhanAllah!! What a pleasant news for someone that You’ve confirmed entrance in Jannah. Introduction of our heroSa’eed ibn Zaid رضي الله عنه is amongst those luckiest people, son of Zaid ibn Amr and nephew of Khattab, cousin of Omar رضي الله عنه. Father of Sa’eed (who was from Quraish) had a blissful nature and a belief that there is only one Allah SWT who has authority over us. Once, they Quraish was celebrating a festival and in that event, some of them were sacrificing a sheep in the name of idols. He shouted and came forward that this sheep is part of nature and belongs to Allah. You people should be ashamed of Allah SWT that HE made it with His blessing and you are sacrificing it in name of other than Allah SWT. Khattab slapped him and beaten him because of his believes. Later he died before the revelation on Allah SWT but he is counted amongst the believers at the Day of Judgment. Since the nature of Zaid was mainly towards Allah, he prayed to Allah to inculcate Islam among his descendant that Allah accepted it in terms of Sa’eed RA’s rank in Islam. His acceptance of IslamHe was amongst the first believers of Islam. He accepted Islam in his early age of 19. He and his wife Fatimah RA, sister of Omar رضي الله عنه were the 12th and 13th believer of Islam. Titles he earned Sa’eed رضي الله عنه is known as Katib-ul-Wahi (Writer of Revelation). He was always charged first in the battle that is why; he was also titled as قاعد الفرسان (head of the knights). Since he was a good poet as well, Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم made him “Scholars In charge.” He loved being served with prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. He loved feeling of struggle and feeling of dust and sand on his face. S’eed رضي الله عنه once said that “witnessing a battle with Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم while having dirt on face and be in the heat of the battle is more beloved than to have good deeds in your entire life even if you lived the life of Nooh AS.” His saying is showing his love towards Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. He never used to leave prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم even for a single moment that some companions used to call him moth. This was his intensity towards love of Allah SWT and prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم. No urge of position At the time of caliphate of Omar RA, Omar رضي الله عنه gave him position as a Governor of Damascus. For continuously three months, he used to roam in the palace and walk in his balcony and used to say “this is not what I love doing. I love being part of Allah SWT’s path.” He sent a letter to Omar رضي الله عنه that till this letter reaches him, he’ll be on his way as he was man of dirt of battlefield. He didn’t take this position and asked him to give this position to the one who is more befitting. This attribute of him gives us message that whatever we are at the position, we should never leave path of Allah SWT and never leave the gist that we should always remember that we have to serve our religion at every single step of life. Conqueror of Iraq and Syria Sa’eed served Islamic army of conquest. He played a significant role in making region of Iraq and Syria as an Islamic land. He travelled at these regions and trained people about deen. He also played a big role in preventing gossips against different companions like Uthman and Ali RA. Once, in Kufa, Sa’eed رضي الله عنه was sitting in the masjid along with the governor of Kufa. Some people were gossiping about Ali RA, then he became sad on the governor that in his presence, people are insulting a companion of Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم. He further quoted a hadith that “I heard from the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم with my own ears.
The Messenger of Allah said, “Abu Bakr is in Paradise; Umar is in Paradise; Uthman is in Paradise; Ali is in Paradise; Talha is in Paradise; Zubayr is in Paradise; Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas is in Paradise.” If it was necessary to mention the ninth one, I would mention him, too.” Since people were curious; therefore next day they all gathered around and insisted him on knowing the ninth name of person who has earned Jannah. Saa’eed finally said as you have vowed by the name of Allah, I will tell you: I am the ninth one.” (Sunan Ibn-e-Majah: 133).
This scenario gives us message that we should not tolerate harsh attitude or bad words towards Allah SWT, Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and his companions رضي الله عنهم He died at the age of 80, in 51st year of migration. When the companions gave him ghusl and was about to perfume his body, they found that it is already smelling sweet. SubhanAllah! Allah SWT was happy with him although he didn’t die in battlefield. رضي الله عنهم و رضوا عنهHis intention was clear in his entire life and this is the main message we can get from his death that however you die, what matter is your intention towards your religion. It happens that a person is very much practicing of Islam but when he died he was not on deen, he shared the authority of Allah with other. Therefore, we should always recite this masnoon dua that;الهم اني اسالك خسن الخاتمة Amen ya Rabb!!!So as long as your intention is for the service of Allah SWT, He will surely accept you and your services in his court, In shaa Allah o Ta’ala. May Allah grant us quality service for the sake of His deen. Amen ya Rabb!!!
